Frank Anthony Townsend, age 76, was born September 12,1948 in Aurora, IL to Philip and Ruth (Blyth) Townsend of Hanover, IL. Frank passed away peacefully at home in Hanover on December 16, 2024.
Frank graduated from Hanover High School with the Class of 1966. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1967-1969, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Hanover VFW Post #5300 and the 11th Armored Cavalry's Veterans of Vietnam & Cambodia.
After his military service, Frank returned to Hanover. He was first married to Eileen Weinen of Galena, IL who had a daughter, Cindy. He was later married to Mary Bailey who had a son Bobbie and two daughters, Cindy (Kenny) Rogers, Hanover, IL and Tina (Jim) Conard, Monmouth, IL, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank was employed at John Deere & Co in Dubuque, IA for 30 years. In addition, he owned and operated the Blackhawk Motel in Savanna, IL and the Bootlegger Saloon in Hanover for many years. He had a deep love for live Country Music and traveled often to Nashville, TN, where he made many close friends. Frank was also a lifelong Cubs and Packers fan.
Frank is survived by and will be dearly missed by his siblings: Vance (Barbara) Townsend of Severance, CO; Ward (Barb) Townsend of Galena, IL; Andrew (Cindy) Townsend of Albuquerque, NM; Russell (Cindy) Townsend of Freeport, IL; Ernest Townsend of St. Charles, IL; and Amber (Robert "Rusty") Palm of Sugar Grove, IL. He will also be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife Mary and her son Bobbie.
Frank's lasting legacy will be the friendships he made everywhere he went throughout his lifetime; he will be remembered with love by many.
A graveside service with Military Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover, Illinois. There will be a luncheon at the Hanover VFW immediately after the graveside service. Memorials can be made to the Hanover VFW.
