It is with profound sadness we announce Frank’s peaceful passing on June 3, 2025 surrounded by his devoted family. He was the loving husband of Carol Pirhalla Tunis, to whom he was married since 1956. Born February 26, 1929 in Scranton, Frank was the son of Peter and Theresa Costa Tunis. He was the oldest of ten children Roxanne, Kaye, Dolores, Eleanor, Marie, Dorothy, Peter, Robert and Harriet.
Frank was a man of many talents. Throughout his professional life he created several businesses, culminating in his true passion, Frank R. Tunis Excavating. He could be seen most days in his backhoe with his trusted companions Heidi 1, Heidi 2, or Heidi 3. Frank often spent early mornings holding court at McDonalds with fellow contractors.
Whether you called him Frank, Dad, Grandpa, or Boompa, the feeling was the same. He cherished his family above all else. Frank had three children, Mark and wife Jacqui, Maria and Frank, six grandchildren Michael, Stephanie, Justin, Hannah, Kit, and Brandon, and 13 great grandchildren.
With great appreciation for the devotion given by Drs. Yvonne Galella and Marla Dempsey, as well the incredible and unwavering care our Traditional Hospice nurses and aide provided throughout a very difficult time.
In leiu of flowers donations may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
The funeral will be on Friday, June 13, at 10am at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. Interment will be private.
