Frank James Yeager was born on November 20, 1937, in Ames, Iowa, to James J. Yeager and Margaret McKinney Yeager. He grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where he developed a deep and abiding love of the outdoors.

Frank graduated from Dartmouth College in 1960. He met the love of his life, Kay Prothro, on a blind date, and they instantly knew they would spend the rest of their lives together. They were married on June 17, 1961.

Frank was happiest spending time in the mountains of Colorado and in Yellowstone National Park. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid photographer, and it gave him great pleasure that so many people were able to enjoy his photographs.
Frank passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by his photographs, after spending time with his entire family and listening to the laughter of his grandchildren.

His family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Presbyterian Manor, especially the staff of Evergreen Suite, and Hospice of Wichita Falls, for their incredible care and compassion.

Frank is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kay) Prothro Yeager; their children, Kathryn Elizabeth Yeager and Linda Anne Whaylen, and her husband Tom; and his grandchildren, Nicholas George Beltchev, Lara Elizabeth Herreid, Andrew James Beltchev, and Mark Yeager Edwards. His legacy and love of nature lives on through them.

A private graveside service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund.
