Frankie Gray Chitwood

The funeral service for Mrs. Frankie Gray Chitwood, 87, of Jacksonville, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at K.L. Brown Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with Reverend Ken Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Chitwood passed away peacefully on Thursday evening at NHC Healthcare.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Chitwood and Hoyt Chitwood, Jr. (Nancy); a daughter, Gayle Babcock (Gordon); a granddaughter, Abbigail Cain; her sister-in-law, Pat Gray; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hoyt Chitwood; a daughter, Cinda Chitwood; her parents, Austin and Willie Gray; her sisters, Molene Chitwood and Gaynell Teague; and a brother, Vernon Gray.

A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Mrs. Chitwood was known for her warm heart, her love of cooking, and her deep affection for children. She dedicated many years of service to Jacksonville Hospital and also worked in the lunchrooms at Cedar Springs School and Pleasant Valley School.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
