Frankie Sprabary was born August 24, 1928, to Roy Lester and Lorena Wilkinson Lester in Flower Mound, Texas. She passed peacefully from this life June 26, 2024, surrounded by family at home, where she was lovingly cared for by her children.
Frankie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lorena; her husband of 31 years, H. L. (Abe) Sprabary; sisters, Carleta Cain, Bernice Perry, and Anne Laurie Lawley; brother, Pat Lester, and son, Larry Sprabary.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Hurley; daughter-in-law, Pat Sprabary, wife of son, Larry; daughters, Aleshia Sprabary, and Amilia Sprabary; son, Paul Sprabary and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Christopher Sprabary and wife, Christina; Victoria and husband, Daniel Dixon; Autumn and husband, Brett Bradshaw; Olivia Sprabary, and great-granddaughter, Max Sprabary. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and members of the Oliphant and Cordova families, all of whom she loved.
Frankie was raised on a farm in the home of her loving grandfather, Jim Wilkinson, in Flower Mound. This is where she first heard her mother and aunts singing on the porch in the cool of the evening. She soon joined the chorus.
While in high school, she began voice training as a coloratura soprano. This training led to requests for her to sing at church, school, and civic events throughout her life.
One afternoon while sitting at the drug store lunch counter, she saw a "sharp dressed" young man pass by the window. She asked the druggist if he knew who the young man was. Fortunately, he did and a few years later she married Abe Sprabary and they began their life together. Larry and Aleshia would soon join their home.
Frankie continued her voice training, and performed on local radio programs, including KRLD's Big D Jamboree, and the Rosemary Clooney Radio Contest. She was asked to join the cast of Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute, performing the Queen of the Night's aria as part of the Dallas Institute of Performing Arts and Knox Street Theatre.
It was also during this time that a neighbor invited her to attend a Tent Revival meeting. The message that evening was "Jesus, the Friend of Sinners." She made the decision to give her life to the Lord and to use her voice to honor Him.
The small family would soon move to Dreux, France as part of Abe's Army assignment. While there, Frankie sang with the Dreux Air Force choir, performing in several cathedrals in France.
Four years later, a return to Abilene, Texas would include the birth of two more children, Amilia and Paul. Frankie continued singing as a soloist while attending Trinity Baptist Church.
The family moved back to Lewisville in 1976. After the passing of her husband a year later, Frankie joined Temple Baptist Church where she continued singing. She also served as secretary for the Chinn's Chapel Cemetery Association, contributing to research leading to the Official Texas Historical Marker designation for the Chinn's Chapel Methodist Church and Cemetery. She also contributed to the research and story development for the Flower Mound Historical Commission's book "Sweet Flower Mound Land."
Frankie continued to love and care for her growing family, which now included grand and great grandchildren, and to serve the Lord until the age of 95. She was a firm believer that "You are never too old to learn something new."
She loved all things creative, and excelled in music, art, gardening, and cooking. She used these talents to create a warm and loving home for her family. But her greatest gift to them was sharing her faith in Jesus.

My husband and I attended Trinity Baptist Church with Frankie in the early 70's and she became a student in my art class. Frankie was gifted in many ways and
a blessing to know. Family, you are in my prayers. May God bring you comfort and peace.
