Frankin Grindle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Bucksport on Dec. 12, 2025.
Orland, ME – Franklin L. Grindle (91) of Orland, ME, passed away peacefully at Eastern Maine Medical Center on December 9th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Franklin was born on February 2nd, 1934, to the late Franklin H. and Aurilla M. Grindle. Franklin was predeceased by his wife of nearly seven decades, Norma A. Grindle; sons Frank and Gary; and brothers Bob and James.
Franklin is survived by his seven devoted sons, who will cherish his memory: Arnold and his wife Pam of Orland; Ralph and his wife Ruth of Orland; Calvin of Orland; Chris and his wife Deborah of Bucksport; Clayton and his wife Jody of Orland; Anthony and his wife Debbie of Orland and her children Marco and Alicia; and Stewart of Orland. Franklin will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: James, Sarah, Alicia, Alysia, Mathew, Christopher, Cameron, Ryan, Jordyn, Andrew, Jayson, Marco, and Alicia, and great grandchildren: Charlotte, Juliette, Addison, and Weston. Franklin will also be remembered by his sisters Alberta Whitney and Jane Tannehill both of Orland.
Franklin met his wife Norma in Spokane, WA in 1957 when Franklin was serving in the Army. They married in 1958 in Coeur d'Alene, ID, by Reverend ORLAND Scott. They subsequently relocated to Orland, Maine where together they raised 9 boys. Franklin took great pride in his role as a father, instilling in each of them the importance of family, value of working hard and making it a priority to always be there for one another. Franklin and his wife were successful in this undertaking, resulting in a fierce brotherhood and strong family connections that they in turn are passing along to their own children.
In addition to his role as an attentive father and loving husband, Franklin served in the United States army and worked for many years for Ray Builders, successfully and proudly supporting his family. As a lifelong resident of Orland, Maine for all of his 91 years, Franklin formed thousands of friendships and lifelong connections and enjoyed telling many a stories – some of which the truth may have been stretched just a bit to elicit a laugh from his audience.
Adoring husband. Exceptional father. Hard worker right through to his last days of life. Devoted teacher and role model to his sons. This is Franklin Grindle's legacy that will be lived on through each of his boys.
At the family's request, a private graveside service will be held in the spring for his immediate family. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services Bucksport. (mitchelltweedie-young.com)
