E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home, P.A. - KingsvilleOn September 18, 2025, Franklin “Frank” Abel, Jr. peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of 58 years to Linda L. (nee Nally) Abel; a cherished father to Tanya (nee Abel) Mattheiss and her husband Blair, and Shannon Abel and his wife Brea (nee Palmer) Abel. He was the proud and loving “Pop” to B.J. Mattheiss and his wife Caroline, Colbee (nee Mattheiss) Reeves and her husband Connor, Quinn Abel, and Callum Abel; and the adoring great-grandfather of Brooks Mattheiss. Frank is also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Claudette and Will Engelke, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Born to the late Franklin Abel, Sr. and Vera (nee Floyd) Abel, Frank grew into a man of strong faith, deep devotion to family, and a heart that welcomed friendships with warmth and kindness. His life was enriched by his love of drawing, painting, fishing, camping, music, and what he fondly called “piddling.” Frank’s creativity, and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A memorial service celebrating Frank’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1100 Philadelphia Road (Joppa), on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 3 pm and he will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Gilchrist (https://gilchristcares.org/), supporting the compassionate services they provide to those in need.
The Abel family deeply appreciates the love, kindness, and support extended to them during this difficult time. May Frank’s memory live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
