Franklin “Frank” Edward Allgire, 85, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, following a short illness. Born at home on February 22, 1940, he was the youngest of three children born to Edward Franklin and Sadie Marie Day Allgire. He grew up alongside his sisters, Ruth (the late Richard) Howell and the late Betty (the late Carl Douglas) Hummel, in a family rooted deeply in the Sullivan community.
Frank spent most of his life in Sullivan, where he farmed and operated a field drainage tile business with his father before his father’s retirement that served neighbors and local farmers for many years. His commitment to his community extended well beyond his work. He served as a Sullivan Township zoning inspector, was a Cub Scouts Pack Leader, and was a dedicated member of the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department. In later years, he made his home in Ashland, where he lived for the past fifteen years.
On March 19th, 1961, Frank married the love of his life, Beverly Jean Harmon, with whom he shared sixty five years of devotion, partnership, and family. Together they were blessed with five children: Betty Jean, William, Bruce, and twins Brent and Brett, who were stillborn. Frank was a steady, hardworking, and a generous presence in the lives of those he loved, and he took great pride in his family.
Frank was known for his humor, his gift for storytelling, and his uncanny ability to make people laugh when they least expected it. He had a way of brightening a room simply by being in it. He also had many interests that reflected his curiosity and love of hands on work. He was an avid reader, photographer with a creative flair, enjoyed woodworking, and spent many seasons hunting and fishing the fields, woods, and land he knew so well.
A longtime member and supporter of Albion Bible Church, Frank lived his faith quietly but sincerely, offering help where it was needed and friendship without hesitation.
Frank is survived by his sister Ruth; his wife Beverly; his sons William and Bruce (Sue); and his grandchildren Sophie, Gregory, and Bradley. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his daughter Betty Jean and by his infant sons Brent and Brett.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress Street, West Salem, Ohio with a funeral service for Frank at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Potosky officiating. Frank will be laid to rest at Southview Cemetery in Sullivan, the community he served and cherished throughout his life.
