Franklin D. Lay

Franklin (Dee) D. Lay, age 78, of Knoxville, TN passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023. Franklin was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katie and Willis Lay; brother, Claude Lay, and sister, Sally Lee. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Dennis Lay (Tina), John Lay, Frank Treece (Susie) of Georgia, and Edwin Lay of Ohio; daughters, Jessica Hyder and Julie Warner (Will); brother, R.L. Lay; sisters, Opal Davis, Patricia Wheeler, and Virginia Tharpe and many nieces and nephews, long time special companion and care giver Shrilahn Holder. The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Rose funeral & Cremation-Broadway. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Josh Greene officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 pm Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Governor John Sevier Hwy for a 2:00 pm interment service with Full Military Honors conducted by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
