Marion Doris Lay, age 81, of Smithfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026.
Marion was born on March 9, 1944, in Owenton, Kentucky, to the late Theodore Pate and Fanny Bell Pate. She dedicated many years of her life to working as a caregiver in healthcare, a role that perfectly reflected her kind and giving heart.
She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin Lay; her children, Mark Lay (Janet), Marcy Maggard (Todd), and Matthew Lay (Angie). Marion was a proud and devoted grandmother to 10 grandchildren and was blessed with one great-grandchild. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by many family members and dear friends.
Marion found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved fishing, listening to music, playing card games, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Taking care of her family and friends came naturally to her, as she was a caregiver in every sense of the word. Marion was also an amazing cook, well known for her delicious fried chicken, homemade jam, and many other treasured dishes.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., both taking place at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
