Sue Lay

Sue Lay, age 88, of Dover, died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at her home. She was born January 2, 1938, in Hector to Rev. Thurman James and Clella Gertrue Duncan Hill.

She loved her family and always made the effort to attend all of her sons, nieces, nephews and her extended family ball games, even if that meant traveling. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing dominos. Later in life, she had a second career as a truck driver and made many trips with her husband, Roger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Joe Lay; and her siblings, James Hill, Linda Hill, Donna Riddle and Brenda Millsaps.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Roger Lay; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Carol Lay of Casa and Larry and Linda Lay of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert Flores of Lemon Grove, California; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Sadra Hill of Dover and Tommy and Jo Ann Hill of Russellville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane Barton, Sharon and Dickey Barnett, and Jeanie and B.J. McAlister all of Dover; six grandchildren, Ashli, Amber, Xzavier, Michael, Tanner and Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Shinn Chapel with her nephew, Charlie McAlister officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
