.... Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; though art mine. When though passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: When though walkest through the fire, though shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:1-2
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was called to his heavenly home.
Born October 11, 1935, in Vernon Texas to Alvin R. Schatte and Hulda Ernestine Wenke, Frank was the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Vernon High School in 1953, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.
On November 2, 1956, he married Margaret Ola Hines in Vernon Texas. Six children; three boys and three girls soon followed.
Frank was a graduate of North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) in Denton, Texas. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Physical Education in 1962. He taught the sciences and coached football, basketball and track for 32 years within the Texas public school system until his retirement in 1993. Frank was a beloved coach and teacher to many of his students. He was an unforgettable presence with his characteristic flat top haircut. His belief in principles of discipline, tenacity and determination (although some might call this stubbornness) were balanced by his sense of humor
Upon retirement, Frank turned his full attention to his hobbies which were woodworking and helping neighbors with home renovations and repairs.
Frank's steadfast faith in God was the cornerstone of his life here on earth. He was active in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and held numerous leadership positions over the years at St. Paul Lutheran church in Vernon.
Above all, he was a devoted husband to his wife Margaret, who preceded him in death in 2006. He is survived by two of his six siblings; Doris James and William Schatte; sons Chris Schatte (Joni) of Broken Bow Ok., David Schatte (Patti) of Granbury Tx. and Kevin Schatte (Shawn) of Spring Tx; daughters Susan Schatte Horne (Jeff) of Denton Tx., Lea Ann Sexton of Horseshoe Bay, Tx. and Kimberly Sayles (Eric) of Twin Lake Michigan. Frank was also joyful to have twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas Tuesday, August 26 from 5-7pm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 27 at 10:00am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Granbury.
Frank will be laid to rest beside Margaret, his wife of 48 years, at Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon, Tx., Thursday, August 28 with a graveside service at 11:00am.
