Fred Dixon Carlisle, Jr., 80, of
Manchester, Georgia, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, Georgia.
He was born on October 6, 1945, in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Fred Dixon Carlisle, Sr., and Frances Howard Carlisle. He spent his early childhood in Milstead, Georgia, before his family settled in Manchester in the early 1960s. A 1963 graduate of Manchester High School, he went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned a Master's of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a corpsman, including active duty in Vietnam. Following his military service, he returned to Manchester, dedicating his career to education. He taught in Meriwether, Troup, and Henry counties at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
An avid and competitive tennis player and runner, he maintained a lifelong love of sports. In later years, he could often be found riding his bike around the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation campus or accompanying his son on a round of golf. He was a familiar face at the Manchester McDonald's, where he enjoyed his daily coffee, and he never passed up an ice-cold Coca-Cola.
He had a soft spot for animals and rescued many throughout his life, including his beloved dog, Bob. He also loved watching movies, especially the Indiana Jones series, Westerns, and Mission Impossible; cheering for the Atlanta sports teams, and following professional tennis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was the proud father of four children and is survived by LeAnn Carlisle Clark (Jimmy) of Zebulon, Georgia; Caroline Carlisle Vincent (Michael) of Nashville, Tennessee; Susie Carlisle Couts (Josh) of Lebanon, Tennessee; and Christopher Frederick Carlisle of Nashville, Tennessee. He found great joy in his grandchildren, Samuel James and Leah Susannah Vincent, and Jack Christopher and Anna Jane (AJ) Couts. He is also survived by his sisters, Carole Joiner (the late Chris) of Fortson, Georgia, and Janice Smith (James) of Ellerslie, Georgia; his brother, Keith Carlisle (Lisa); and one niece and three nephews.
