Sara Sherrer Phillips, 90, of Warm Springs, formerly of Pittsview, AL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters at the Warm Springs Nursing Home.
Ms. Phillips was born on April 23, 1935 in the Raleigh community of Meriwether county. She was the daughter of Roscoe Lee "Bill" Pearson and Johnnie Pearl Waddell Gillngham. She was raised and educated in Meriwether county and a member of the Beta club in high school. Following her primary education, she attended and earned a business school degree. That later led to a long career with the Manchester Police Department. She wore many "hats" during those years and she was dedicated and happy to do the work. She raised two wonderful daughters as a single mother, after the passing of her first husband, Billy M. Sherrer. She was a strong and fiercely independent woman and always well put-together. She was devout in her faith and a member of the Manchester Church of the Nazarene. Ms. Phillips and her second husband, R. Dana Phillips shared many happy times together dancing and traveling. She loved her family, who affectionately knew her as "Sister." A strong family bond was always important to her. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Billy Sherrer and second husband, Dana Phillips; and brother, Ralph Pearson.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan (John) Betts and Billie (Lewis) Heard both of Woodbury; grandchildren, Dane (Katie) van Petten of Garden Grove, CA, Casey van Petten and Lindsey van Petten both of Newnan, Wesley (Abbie) Heard of Manchester, and Ansley Heard of Woodbury; one great-grandchild, Timaia van Petten of Garden Grove, CA; siblings, Dorothy Williams of Lake Isabella, CA, Arthur Pearson of Woodbury, Allen (Frances) Pearson of Manchester, and Walter Pearson of Treasure Island, FL; step daughters, Lesia Dorough of St. Simons Island, Wendy Rush of Ft. Meyers, FL and Nancy Garstka of Montgomery, MA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Manchester City Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted, or those wishing may make memorial contributions to Manchester Church of the Nazarene.
