Fred Gregory Etheridge

Fred Gregory Etheridge, age 85, of Shawboro, NC, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at his home. Fred was born on November 29, 1940, in Currituck County to the late Horace Doc Etheridge, Sr. and Annie Mae Gregory Etheridge.
Fred married Mary "Kitty" Reed on February 28, 1970, after he swept her off her feet on their first date to Frog Island (beginning her love of frogs). He lived in downtown Shawboro, next to his family home and birthplace, for over 45 years. He was the cherished husband of Kitty; a loving "Daddy" to Mary Kanya Wallace (husband Kenneth) and Katherine Anne Jenkins (husband Josh); a fun-loving "Pappy" to Kenneth Nathaniel Wallace, Mary Elizabeth Wallace (husband Mike), and Lily Jenkins; and soon-to-be great-grandfather to Asher James. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Elmer Ray Etheridge and Horace Doc Etheridge, Jr.
Fred enjoyed many activities. He grew up with a passion for baseball. He loved farming and was famous for his watermelons, cantaloupes, and pumpkins. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, training his hunting dogs, fishing, and snow skiing. He was known all over the county, in Elizabeth City, and on the Virginia Beach waterfront for biking on his reclining trike. But his favorite pastime was people watching as he sat in his chair in his garage, waving at his neighbors as they rode by. He always had time to give a smile, tell a joke, and share a laugh. He will be dearly missed.
Please join us in remembering his life at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Corinth Baptist Church, 1035 US-17, Elizabeth City, NC. The family will receive friends at the home and immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at Etheridge Family Cemetery.
