Fred G. Gilbert

Fred G. Gilbert, age 92, of Canton, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2023. He was born December 4, 1930 and was preceded in passing by his parents, the late George and Edith (Royer) Gilbert and his son, the late Mark Gilbert. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Marianne (Cunningham) Gilbert; daughters, Sandy (Greg) Grimes and Karen Koch; grandchildren, John (Sarah) Highman, Jr., Sarah (Kalen) Bowen), Daniel Koch, Noah Koch, and Christian Koch; great-grandchildren, Alex Highman, Abigail Highman, and Quentin Bowen; and sister, Frances Finnegan.
Fred was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and earned the rank of sergeant during the Korean Conflict, 1950-1953. He went on to enjoy a career with the Timken Company, in which he later retired. Fred was devoted to his faith and was honored at his church, the Eleventh Street Church of God, for 50 years of service. Alongside his wife, he was a church helper for the Jolly Agers. He also had the honor of being the President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years. Most importantly, Fred was devoted to his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and he will be deeply missed as his family cherishes his life and legacy for years to come.
