Fred William Goike, age 71, a lifelong Shelby Township resident, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Beaumont Hospital in Troy after a long battle with cancer. Fred was born July 19,1954 in Detroit, the son of William and Gina(DeSantis) Goike. He married Rose Mary (Braeckevelt) on April 20,1985 at St.Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Romeo. In his youth Fred enjoyed motorcycles, snow mobiles and rock and roll music! Fred lived a life defined by hard work. A lifelong farmer, Fred, dedicated his life to the land and to the people it nourished. For 58 years he operated W. Goike’s Family Farm in Shelby Township, a beloved roadside produce stand that became a treasured gathering place in the community. Customers returned season after season not only for his fresh corn and produce, but for the chance to visit, share stories, and enjoy the genuine friendship Fred offered so freely.Fred believed in giving back. He generously provided corn to many charitable organizations, including local churches and the American Legion, helping support community events, fundraisers, and neighbors in need. His quiet generosity reflected his strong values and his belief in taking care of one another. Known for his warm personality and easy conversation, Fred had a way of making everyone feel welcome.Many who stopped by his stand became longtime friends, and families made visiting him a cherished summer tradition.
Fred is survived by his wife Rose Mary, and children; Scott (Iulia) Goike, Alisha(Jim) Holtgreven and Gerard Goike. Also survived by his mother Gina, and siblings:Tom (Charlene) Goike, Annette Thompson and Janine Goike, Brother-in-law Gerard(Shannon) Braeckevelt along with many aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.Fred was preceded in death by his father William, brother-in-law Paul Thompson and nephew Kenneth Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 2 pm to 8 pm with a 7 pm scripture service followed by a memory share at the Henry Malburg Funeral Home at 11280 32 Mile Road, Romeo MI 48065.Visitation will also take place on Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Romeo from 11:30 am until the time of Mass at noon. Burial will follow at the Bruce-Armada Cemetery.
