Fred Edwin Lux, Jr., age 76 of Ida, passed away on Thursday June 1, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital after a 15 year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born December 27, 1946, he was the son of Fred Edwin Lux, Sr. and Shirley Summers Lux. Fred grew up on the family farm in central Illinois. After graduating from Cerro Gordo High School in 1964, he went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Alma College and a Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University.
While at Alma College, Fred met his future wife, Ann Giebel. They were married March 4, 1967 at the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. They were blessed with two children, Kimberly Lux Bussell and Rodney Douglas Lux.
Fred's teaching career in Monroe began in 1968. He taught for Monroe Public Schools for 30 years. Fred was the first computer teacher for MPS, working with students on Commodore Computers. He also taught computer classes for Eastern Michigan University and Monroe County Community College.
Fred was involved in many community organizations. He was a HAM radio operator, served on the Monroe County Library Board, and helped to start the Floral City Kiwanis Club. Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe for 56 years. He served the church as a youth leader, a Deacon, and a ruling elder.
As a child, Fred became fascinated by trains. He frequently rode the train to Chicago to visit his Grandparents. He loved train museums, chasing trains, and modeling N-Scale railroads. As long as his health permitted, he was an active member of the Toledo Model Railroad Association.

He also leaves five grandchildren- Justin (Amanda) Bussell, Jonathon (Devon) Bussell, Jessica (Andrew) Felder, Joshua Bussell, and JoAnna Bussell, as well as 12 great grandchildren. His sister, Barbara Landers, and her family also survive him. Fred will be missed greatly by his six kitten companions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and his mother and father in law, Fern and Arthur Giebel.
A memorial service to honor Fred's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 Saturday, Just 10. Child care will be provided. The family has requested no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Companion Animals or to the family.
