WADESBORO - On Monday, March 10, 2025, Mr. Fred Donald “Don” Phillips, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Union in Monroe.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Eason and Rev. Chuck McKnight officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the funeral home.
Don was born March 13, 1937, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the late Charles Pinkston Phillips and the late Jewell Gertrude Weiner Phillips. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
He is best remembered as the appliance repairman in and around Anson County. He worked for more than 30 years with Sears in Wadesboro and Rockingham and following retirement, he would often be called on for repair services.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 48 years, Mary Lee Freeman Phillips; his children, Donnie Phillips (Nancy) of Currie, Jackie McPhatter (Lynn) and Diane Collins both of Lilesville and Terry Phillips (Dawn) of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Amanda Kenney (Chris) of Wilmington, Kristie Pearce (Matthew) of Currie, Courtney Humphrey (Allen) of Wilmington, Matthew Griffin of Albemarle, Chelsea McPhatter of Hawaii, David Phillips, Logan Phillips, Mattie Phillips and Matthew Phillips all of Raleigh; his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brayden and Braylee Kenney all of Wilmington and his sister and brother, Margie Vinson of Lancaster, SC and Bert Phillips of Wadesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa McLeon; his son, Lynn “Termite” McPhatter and his granddaughter, Jessica Swearengin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 3520 Stanback Ferry Ice Plant Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
