Fred Quadros Obituary

Fred Norman Quadros passed away on June 18, 2023, peacefully, with his wife of 25 years, Marilyn, by his side He was born in Santa Cruz, Ca, on May 26, 1930, and he was the younger brother of Shirley May Quadros.Raised in his teen years by his beloved grandmother, Rose Emeline Quadros, Fred credited her with being instrumental in his developing a studious mind and solid rock work ethics.Fred and his father became a major entertainment act at The Plunge, the public swimming pool, on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz 1941 – 1943. (There is a miniature putting course there now.) Their acts were diving, swinging with aerial rings, catching each other in midair, etc. Back then my Freddie was known as Fearless Freddy. His pictures are still hanging on the wall at the boardwalk, 2nd floor. Being a native of Santa Cruz it came as no surprise that he dabbled in surfing too. Fred joined the Merchant Marines when he was just sixteen years old. In 1952 Fred was serving on The USS D.E. Aultman Transport and during this time he worked his way up the ladder to the rank of Second-Class Cook.In 1955 Fred joined Pacific Bell as a lineman. After a year of doing so he was spotted by the manager, who walked to work every day, and asked him if he would consider moving to an office job. Fred agreed and that decision changed his life. Over the next 20 years Fred rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a district manager. When he was promoted to the Corporate Office in San Francisco he was told "to leave his tailor at home" as he was expected to wear a suit and tie. "Leave your tailor home, Fred" (Freddie was known as enjoying to dress rather flashy.) While working in San Francisco he developed the program for the Hard-of-Hearing, that was his "baby"! It went viral before he retired in 1983 from the Corporate Office. While working for the phone company Freddie became a member of The Toastmasters International, where he won the coveted District Speech Contest. In the late 1960s, Fred started playing Bridge and he attained the rank of Life Master in a very short time. He was also involved in building homes in South Lake Tahoe and it was there where he was bitten by the "skiing" bug. Fred LOVED skiing. He played golf all over the world, including the birthplace of golf, St. Andrews, Scotland; he had only 1 hole-in-one; even though his lowest handicap was a 5.In 1988, while living in Foster City, my Freddie retired only because Ma Bell wanted him to move to New Jersey; instead, he bought a home in The Meadows, joined Corral de Tierra Country Club and was a member at Corral for 35 years. He was also a member of the Senior Golf Association of Northern California, the 2nd oldest club in America. Yes, Freddie served on all committees and always served on Board of Directors before serving as President. He enjoyed being active and knowing "what was going on"! Fred is survived by his wife, Marilyn Brun Quadros, his two sons, Norman, Royal Oaks, CA, and Stephen (June), Santa Monica, CA, his two stepsons, David Fontes (Corinne), Salinas, Ryan Fontes (Sadie), Prescott, AZ, and his six step-grandsons., K.C., Tanner, David Ryan, Mason, Cody, & Jaxon Fontes.A Memorial Service will be held @ Corral de Tierra County Club, 81 Corral de Tierra Road, Salinas, CA on Saturday, July 8th at 4:00 P.M. Freddie's favorite charity was the SPCA, 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway, Monterey, CA 93924. Funeral Arrangements by Struve and Laporte Funeral Home.Online condolences to www.struveandlaporte.com

FRED,
YOU WERE A CLASS ACT EVERY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE. IT WAS FUNNY HOW OFTEN WE WOULD SHOW UP AT BRIDGE IN THE SAME COLOR OF SWEATER. LOVE YOU FRED, DEAR FRIEND.
