Fred Allen Stahl, known to his family and friends as "Butch", passed away on May 26, 2022, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 81. Butch was born at home in Boerne, TX on October 27, 1940, to Allen Albert Stahl and Rose Lee Franke Stahl. He married Doris Gabehart on March 29, 1968, in San Antonio, TX. In 1972, he built his Boerne home where he and Doris raised their family and retired.
Butch served his country for over thirty years through his civil service career with the U.S. Army. He served his community by volunteering his time, heart and services as a leader in the YMCA Indian Guides (now known as Adventure Guides), as a little league baseball coach, as a parent volunteer and mentor for the Future Farmers of America and 4-H, and as a 50-year member of the Boerne Masonic Lodge. A stalwart pillar of the Boerne community, he was the self-elected chief of his neighborhood watch, always looking out for his neighbors, friends, and family.
Butch could often be found, with his bride of 54 years, waltzing across Texas at dance halls throughout the Texas Hill Country; hunting or making sausage; gardening; or smoking his famous brisket. He was a loving husband and hands-on Dad and Popo, the biggest supporter, cheerleader and mentor for his four children, eleven grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents and son-in-law, Jimmie Snider. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his siblings, Larry Stahl (Elaine) and Suzette Key (Duke); his four children, Annette Snider, Coby Loessberg (Theresa), Brian Stahl (Alisha), and Lisa Stahl Lee (Brian); his grandchildren, Kisha (Patrick), Ashley (Kyle), Christopher (Teresa), Josh, Annemarie (James), Sawyer, Spencer (Emma), Amber, Connor, Tanner, and Brandon; and his great-grandchildren: Elijah, Andrew, Abigail, Landon, Carolyn, Phillip, and Mackenzie; two nieces and one nephew.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 10am at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Kendall County EMS or the cancer center of your choice. Fred and Doris were supporters of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
