Fred Storey Obituary

Fred Charles Storey, 85, of Doolittle Hill, Laceyville, PA passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, September 6, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 1, 1940, in Meshoppen, PA, Fred lived an active life as a dairy farmer, with his loving wife Doris (nee Tokach) Storey. They were married on May 16, 1964 and recently marked their 61st anniversary. Together they ran the farm on Doolittle Hill for 40 years. He will be deeply missed by his children, Fred Storey Jr., Laceyville, and Rhodonna Storey Hart of Pennellville, NY; grandchildren, Jacob Hart and Natalie Hart; his sister, Fran Stretch and her husband, Norman, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Fred came to the farm with his parents, Charles and Josephine (nee Deleski) Storey, in the early 1940's. He attended schools in Skinners Eddy, Auburn Township, and Meshoppen, before he graduated in 1958 with the first class from Elk Lake High School. While in school, he excelled in basketball under the guidance of Coach Red Wallace. Baseball was also a staple for Fred, playing in high school, on town teams, and later, softball. He was still pitching into his 40s.

He was an avid lifelong sportsman, hunting deer and all kinds of game. He especially enjoyed telling the stories with friends and family. Every spring, he couldn't wait until he got that first big stringer of Bullheads from Storey Lake.

Fred always had time for family. He helped his Dad build Storey Lake, and "whitewash" barns. When his Dad's health failed, Fred took over the family farm in his late teens. But the biggest joy in his life came with his children and grandchildren, following all of their events, and sitting around the table with Doris' great food and good conversation.

Fred had a special spot in his life for animals, including many dogs over the years like Sheppie, who kept the wheels moving by barking in circles in front of the tractor. But none like his "Buddy" of the last five years, Vena, who found her way onto his lap.

Fred will always be remembered for being a jokester with a great sense of humor, his hearty laugh, his compassion for others, and the courage to stand for what is right.

In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nicholas and Anna (nee Trabish) Tokach and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael and Freda Tokach, Perry Tokach, Cindy (nee Tokach) Johnson, and Lewis Smith.

He is also survived by sister-in-law, Susanne Smith and brother-in-law, Art Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM from St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, Sterling Street, Meshoppen, PA with Reverend Patrick L. Albert and Deacon Raymond Pieretti. Interment will follow in the St. Joachim's Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6, Meshoppen, on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and a Rosary will be recited by Deacon Raymond Pieretti immediately following the conclusion of the calling hours.
