James Bennett, Sr., age 77, of
Meshoppen, PA passed away on Friday morning, September 5, 2025 at the Endless Mountains Health Systems in Montrose, PA.
He was born on June 21, 1948 in
Meshoppen, PA, son of the late William C. (d. April 7, 1993) and Edith M. Adams Bennett (d. August 9, 1985).
After a short stint as a truck driver, James chose to pursue his passions for farming and carpentry. He enjoyed all aspects of the farming life, especially working with his horses and tractors, and being able to do so with his beloved dogs by his side. His love of the outdoors was also evident in his many hours spent hunting or fishing. James was also a big fan of NASCAR and could often be found watching the races while cheering on his favorite drivers.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Gesicka Dunn Bennett; his children, James Bennett, Jr. (Allison) of Montrose, PA, Beth Stevens (Ken) of Springville, PA, Willie Bennett (Shenen) of Montrose, PA, Brian Bennett (Michelle) of Springville, PA, Raymond Dunn of Montrose, PA Andrew Dunn (June) of Mehoopany, PA, and Sean Dunn of
Meshoppen, PA; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James is also survived by his siblings, Patsy Warner (Jerry) of
Meshoppen, PA, Sue Jackson (Ray) of Towanda, PA, Doris Pickett of
Meshoppen, PA, Linda Mickle (Bob) of Uniondale, PA, and Cindy Farr (Wally) of Mehoopany, PA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Geraldine Sarles.
A Memorial Service for James will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home 8206 Main St.,
Meshoppen, PA 18630, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 7:00 PM with Reverend Tim Barnett of New Hope Ministries officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the time of service.
