I Richard Edward Kalinowski

Richard Edward Kalinowski, 73, of Meshoppen, PA passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Richard was born on January 12, 1952, at Tyler Hospital in Meshoppen, PA, to Irene "Queenie" Mahoney Ciprich and the late Edward Kalinowski. He was a proud graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School.

At the young age of 30, Richard was diagnosed with a rare and serious illness, known as Gillian-Barre Syndrome, that would leave him disabled for the rest of his life. Despite that diagnosis, and through extensive rehabilitation, Richard decided to further his education at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) in Florida, becoming a certified mechanic with dreams of building his own trike. A dedicated and entrepreneurial spirit, Richard owned and operated the Tunkhannock Food Mart (TFM) for many years, successfully serving the local community. He also used his mechanical expertise while working for the family business, Ciprich Lawn & Garden, later known as D.C.'s Parts & Service.

Richard was a man with a distinct and infectious sense of humor. He had a deep love for music, was an avid collector of Lionel trains, and enjoyed all things related to motors and motorcycles. He also possessed a celebrated fascination with "all things creepy", but above all, he will be remembered for his incredible gift of making people laugh. His kind spirit and quick wit brought joy to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Kalinowski; his stepfather, Michael T. Ciprich; and his brother-in-law, Larry Harden.

Richard is survived by his remarkable mother, Irene "Queenie" Ciprich (age 103); his sister, Michele Harden; his two sons, Ricky (Stephanie) and Ryan; his daughter, Tanessa Lee (Yanni); his four granddaughters, Caleigh, Mykaela, Bryana, and Nevaeh; and many great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Richard will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 Main St., Meshoppen, PA 18630 on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 3 PM with Deacon Raymond Pieretti of Nativity BVM officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 PM until the time of service.
