French Funerals & Cremations - Lomas & EubankFred W. Winter Sr. 91, loving husband, father of three boys and "Papa" to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away on February 5, 2026, at his home following a brief illness.
Born November 22, 1934, in Montgomery City, Missouri, Fred was a graduate of Montgomery City High School, earned a BS in Accounting from University of Missouri, and held a CPA certificate throughout his 40+ year career in public accounting. He served in the US Army for two years and served as a radio operator in the Korean War from 1954-1955.
Fred met and married the love of his life, Anne Winter (Bruere) in 1961. They enjoyed the early years of their married life in St. Louis, Missouri, later moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they raised three sons. Fred established a private practice in public accounting while Anne worked as a nurse and later as a hospital administrator and executive for the duration of their careers.
Fred enjoyed a long career as a certified public accountant at Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co, Terra Corporation and Winter, Cunion & Co. He was an especially dedicated member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande where he served in many capacities including Diocese Treasurer for 12+ years, senior warden, vestry member, youth development, building maintenance and other roles at St. Mary's throughout the past 58 years.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Anne Winter in July of 1995. He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Fred, Jr. (Karen) Brian (Cheri), and Jeff (Kathi), along with his seven favorite grandchildren: Brian (Chelsea), Kylie (Jacob), Ryan (Sarah), Christopher (Shana), Taylor (Andrew), Alyssa (Austin), and Megan. He was also blessed by six great-grandchildren: Beau, Braxton, Caleb, Malachi, Grayson, and Kennedy. Fred also enjoyed the special gift of a loving companion and partner for the past 20+ years, Susie Davis.
Fred lived a long, impactful life. He valued integrity and devotion to family, church, friends, and his community. He was a kind man and a beloved father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He will be missed and leaves a legacy of love and service.
A Funeral service and reception for Fred will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Ave. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87112. In lieu of flowers, should you wish, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Memorial Fund for Building & Grounds (c/o St. Mary's Episcopal Church).
