Freda V. Cahoon, 99, of Medford, OK formerly of Sorento and Highland, passed away at 9:20 pm on Friday December 20, 2024, at Wakita Nursing Home in
Wakita, Oklahoma.
Freda was born March 16, 1925, in Sorento, the daughter of the late James Arthur and Marybell (Ray) Himes. She married Leo Louis Cahoon on April 3, 1944, in
Alton, IL, and they enjoyed over 73 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2018. Freda graduated from Sorento High School with the Class of 1943. She was a hard worker and dedicated to her family. Freda retired from the Albers Coal Mine after many years of service and worked side by side with Leo on the family farm, where they raised hogs. She was also devoted to her faith. Freda was a longtime member of the Highland Southern Baptist Church, where she was active on many
committees throughout the years.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Cahoon Lucas; and sisters, Eva A. Hawkins and Vaughn Neathery.
Freda is survived by her daughter, Annabell (husband, Charles Joseph) Kehn of Ridge Manor, FL; sons, Stephen and Spencer of Cahoon, both of Enid, OK; grandchildren, Matthew Cahoon-Loher of College Station, TX, Jessica Cahoon of Enid, OK, Michelle (husband, Ronnie) Phillibrick of Holly, OK, Peter Cahoon of
Enid, OK, and Leo Cahoon of Guthrie, OK; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 10:00- 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 117
Walnut Street, Panama, Illinois.
The funeral ceremony will follow the visitation, from 11:30 a.m. until noon.
Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to: The Highland Southern Baptist Church, 12424 IL, 143, Highland, IL 62249.
