Freddie Francis, of Mineral Point, MO, formerly of Cahokia, IL, passed away on February 24, 2024. Fred was born December 17, 1938, to the late Jesse and Bertha (nee Capper) Francis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Francis, sisters Bernice Payton and Martha Sutherland, and sons Wesley Francis and Arthur Francis.
He is survived by: his children Kirby (the late Brenda) Francis of Leadwood, MO; Deborah (the late Shawn) Young of Arnold, MO; Freddie Lee Francis Jr of St Peters, MO; and Yvette (the late Terry) Lybarger of Leadwood, MO; grandchildren: Cole (Olivier), Jesse, James, Sarah (Mike), Brian (Julia), Abigail (Mike), Andrew, Z, Matthew, Kasey (Casey), Jeremy (Casey), Jordan, Kyle, Jennifer (Matt), Rachel (Zach), Hannah (Ryan), Jacob, Katey (Joshua), Adam (Tiff), and Christopher; numerous great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and various other family members and close friends.
Fred spent many years serving as Cubmaster in Boy Scouts of America, as well as holding several positions of leadership in the Masonic Youth organization of DeMolay, in the metro east area of Illinois. He was not only a member of the local Masonic Lodge, but also a Shriner. He spent many years working with youth, shaping them into becoming upright and productive citizens.
Fred was blessed to be able to take early retirement, and spent his remaining years on Potosi Lake, in Mineral Point, Mo, fishing, playing cards, yard sailing, playing golf, and spending time with a close circle of friends.
Following cremation, Fred’s remains will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery due to his prior service in the US Air Force. Arrangements under the direction of C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge.
