Freddie Greer Obituary

Freddie Greer, 80, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. He was born February 4, 1945 in Evansville to the late Theresa (Borroum) Martin and Herman Greer.

Freddie attended Third Avenue Elementary School and Lincoln High School. He worked in maintenance and facilities management. Freddie was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church where he enjoyed participating in the chorus.

Freddie shared a deep love for his family. He met no strangers and was well-respected for his integrity, honesty and gentle spirit. Freddie enjoyed the simple things of life and continued to grow in favor of the Lord.

Freddie accepted Christ at an early age. As a young child, he attended St. James Missionary Baptist Church where he sang with the Buds of Promise youth choir. Freddie loved singing for the Lord at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church. He joined the Male Chorus where he sang until his health failed him.

He is survived by his daughter, Karla March; stepdaughter, Takiyah (Ashon) Stewart; loving companion, Pamela Suggs; sisters, Betty Jean Andrews, Alice (Otis) Jackson and Ora Dennis; brothers, Otis Greer and Enrico Martin; and nieces and nephews.

Freddie was preceded in death by his father, Herman N. Greer; mother, Theresa L. Martin; sister, Ann Gray; and brother, Robert Greer.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026 at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 484 S. Governor St., Evansville. A Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Reverend Richard Pollard officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Karla March to help with funeral expenses.
