Freddie Leon McElroy passed away on February 20, 2025 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma at the age of 85. He was born August 30, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and lived a life of dedication and service.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the DeArman-Clark Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. J.T. Carnell. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 164. Inurnment will follow at the Seaman First Class Billy Turner Veterans Cemetery in Ardmore. The U.S. Army Honors Team will provide Full Military honors.
Freddie proudly served his country and built a distinguished career in the Army. He entered the United States Army National Guard on March 16, 1955 in Oklahoma City. He claimed to be 2 years older than his actual age on his initial enlistment, joining for the first time at the age of 15 years, 6 months and 15 days. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1965. During his time of service, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and received his Marksman Badge.
Freddie re-entered service on May 23, 1965 in Glendale, Arizona. He was honorably discharged and retired from the 996th Medical Company on March 5, 1990 in Glendale, Arizona. During this chapter of his service, Freddie received: The Armed Forces reserve medal (3 awards), The Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (4 awards and 2 bronze oak leaf clusters), The Long Service Medal from the State of Arizona (3 awards), the Arizona National Guard Exceptionally Long Service Medal and The Army Lapel Button
During Freddie's time of service (March 1955-January 1980), he was a cook, now called a Food Service Specialist. He was promoted to First Cook in February of 1980 and held that position until his retirement in March of 1990.
Freddie married Edna Jean Inman on April 19, 2005, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and they shared years of love and companionship. Freddie is preceded in death by his wife, Edna.
Cremation arrangements were made under the direct DeArman-Clark Funeral home.
