Obituary of Freddy Kyle Sox, Sr.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Freddy Sox, who departed from this world on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Born on October 26, 1939, in West Columbia to the late Clarence and Inez Sox, Freddy lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to others.
Freddy is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Sox, with whom he shared countless cherished memories. He is also remembered fondly by his three sons, Kyle, Todd (Paula), and Tim (Kerri), as well as his adoring grandchildren, Morgan, Jordan, and Haleigh.
A man of faith, Freddy and Libby were devoted members of First Baptist Church in Columbia, where they found solace and community. Professionally, Freddy made significant contributions as a pharmacist, retiring from the Medical Procurement Office for the State of South Carolina. His commitment to excellence was evident in his educational achievements, having graduated from Brookland Cayce High School, the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy, and earning a Master's in Business from Michigan State University.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Freddy's life was enriched by his passion for service and mentorship. For over 20 years, he dedicated his time and energy to the Boy Scouts of America, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of countless young individuals. Freddy's dedication to the Boy Scouts of America extended to his membership in the Order of the Arrow (OA), Scouting's esteemed national honor society. This organization acknowledges Scouts and Scouters (adults) who epitomize the Scout Oath and Law in their everyday actions, serving as a beacon of inspiration for others to uphold these principles.
In his leisure time, Freddy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in the tranquility of fishing. Additionally, he selflessly devoted himself to coaching his sons in baseball, instilling in them values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
Freddy Sox leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family, faith, and community. While he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those whose lives he touched. Freddy's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of love and compassion will forever endure. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his life was a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
