OAK CITY, NC - Freddy Wayne Whitfield, born on February 7, 1954, in Tarboro, North Carolina, passed away on November 18, 2025, in Greenville, North Carolina, at the age of 71 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Freddy graduated from Scotland Neck High School in 1972. In his younger years, he worked as a toy maker at Carolina Enterprise in Tarboro and later as a stocker for Brown's Country Store in Oak City. Known for his love of the outdoors, Freddy found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. He was also an avid gun collector and a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Freddy never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Freddy was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Katie Brown Whitfield; his father, Joe B. Whitfield; his wife, Theresa Hope Acree Whitfield; and his brother, Howard Whitfield.
He is survived by his son, Chris Whitfield, and his wife Tammy of Oak City, NC; his sister, Ruby Cartledge of Pine Top, NC; and his brothers, Billy Whitfield and Tommy Whitfield of Tarboro, NC, Bobby Whitfield and his wife Merry Anne of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and William Whitfield of New Bern, NC.
