Frederic Gary Achterhof, age 78, of Northport, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at his residence. Graveside services and burial will be Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Mark Babb will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel from 1:00 until service time at 2:00 P.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic O. and Arnita C. (nee Fitts) Achterhof.

Gary is survived by his wife, Carolyn Achterhof; daughter, Angie Achterhof; brother, Jon Oliver (Linda) Achterhof; sister-in-law, Joyce (Bill) Hamilton; grandchild, Fitts Achterhof; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was born in Alabama on February 28, 1947, to the late Frederic O. and Arnita C. Achterhof. Gary was a graduate of the Class of 65' from Tuscaloosa Black Bears. After high school, he attended the University of Southern Miss on a golf scholarship. Gary worked for many years at BF Goodrich. He served his country with the Alabama Army National Guard. Gary loved to play golf, fishing, and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his family, whether as a caregiver to his wife Carolyn, or time with his daughter and grandchild. He also loved his other family and his dogs. Gary will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be Alan Hamilton, Rusty Yerkes, Chris Lovless, JJ Evans, and Adrian Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill and Patsy Etheridge, Tim and Rhonda Glancy, Gail Wilson, Christie Hosmer, Jerri Prudhomme, Kim Mull, Mark and Tammy Babb, Terry Evans Bailey, and the Class of 65' Black Bears.
