Marvin Scales, lovingly known as Paw Paw, passed away on August 23, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born and raised in Alabama, Marvin lived a full and adventurous life. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard, later working as a deputy sheriff, a captain river boat pilot, and with BF Goodrich.

Marvin had a love for the river and spent countless hours building river houses, fishing, and piloting boats. He was happiest with a fishing pole in hand or out on the water. He also had a sweet spot for warm donuts, lemon ice box pie, and a good plate of catfish.

In his later years, his favorite role was being Paw Paw, and he found joy in the laughter and company of his great-granddaughters.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Crowley (Jeff); granddaughter, Ashley Wallis (Rob); grandson, Jordan Crowley; and great-granddaughters, Lillie Grace, Ella, Piper, and Millie Kate Wallis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, 2:00pm at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
