Frederick R. "Rick" Corley

Frederick R. "Rick" Corley was born on May 22, 1947, at Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital in Rockledge, to Josephine and Harrell "H.E." Corley.

Rick graduated from Cocoa High School in 1965, proudly earning his letterman's jacket in baseball. He continued his education at Lee University (formerly Lee College), where he was an very active member of Upsilon XI.

After returning to Cocoa, Rick managed the family business, Corley Motel & Construction, and soon began his greatest role - becoming a father to his only child, his daughter, Erika. Two years later, the family of three moved to Leesburg, where Rick began his career in real estate at Mid-Florida Lakes in Lisbon. From that point forward, he flourished in the industry, eventually owning and operating Corley, Rowe, and Speas (CRS) Realty.

Rick was deeply involved in his community from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s - a devoted member of Sunrise Kiwanis and a longtime member of the Central Florida Officials Association (CFOA). He was a familiar and respected face on the field and court as an umpire, referee, and softball coach, including coaching Sunrise Kiwanis Jr. Miss Softball. He attended Lady Lake Church of God before relocating to Maitland in 1983 to be closer to his parents, where he attended Calvary Assembly of God.

Later in life, Rick returned to college and earned a degree in Education, beginning a second career as a coach and teacher that would impact countless young lives. His first coaching position at Jupiter Christian School created many lasting memories and lifelong friendships. His proudest moments, however, were on the court with the girls basketball team at The Villages Charter High School, especially the unforgettable season when they advanced to State. He retired from The Villages Charter School in 2023.

In retirement, Rick enjoyed traveling to Florida and Alabama to spend time with family. He also made special trips to Michigan to visit a dear friend - though he never quite made peace with the cold weather and snow.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine; father, Harrell; brother, Jimmie; and nephew, Christopher. He is survived by his daughter, Erika Corley (FL) and sister, Chrissy Corley (AL)

Rick will be remembered for his leadership, competitive spirit, dedication to his students and players, and above all, his quick-wit, dad-jokes, and love of community and family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
