Frederick (Fred) Henry Horwath, Jr.
April 6, 1934 – April 23, 2025
Frederick (Fred) Henry Horwath, Jr., 91, of Heathsville, Virginia-formerly of Severn, Maryland-entered heaven on April 23, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughter.
Born on April 6, 1934, Fred was the son of the late Frederick H. Horwath, Sr. and Hilda (Blum) Horwath. He married the love of his life, Marie Therese "Punkie" (Stansbury) Horwath, on July 25, 1956, and together they shared 68 devoted years of marriage.
Fred dedicated over 42 years of his professional life to Westinghouse Defense and Electronics Center in Linthicum, Maryland, where he worked as a Senior Engineering Mechanical Technical Specialist. Upon retiring in 1999, he and his wife moved to their beloved farm in Heathsville.
A man of many passions, Fred was a former commercial crabber in Maryland and an active member of the Watermen's Association. He proudly represented his peers as a union representative for the Salaried Employees Association. He was a founding member and former Hunt Master of the Woodcreek Hunting Club in Quantico, Maryland. In retirement, he remained active in his faith community-serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Fairfield United Methodist Church in Burgess, Virginia and later contributing to the Church Council at Living Water Lutheran Church in Weems, Virginia.
Fred loved fishing, crabbing, farming, hunting and entertaining. But above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marie Therese "Punkie" Horwath, and their children: Daniel M. Horwath and his wife Lisa, Laura Dehn Adcock and her husband Rob, and Patricia M. Nashwinter and her husband Robert. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Timothy Hammond.
Fred was a devoted grandfather to Martin Hammond and his wife Mary-Ellen, Amanda Patterson and her husband Adam, Ronald Dehn, Daniel Horwath Jr., Rebecca Horwath, Abigail Nashwinter, Nathaniel Nashwinter and his wife Isabella. He was blessed with great-grandchildren Augustus Hammond, Gabriel Hammond, Allison Patterson, Aaron Patterson and Noah Hazen.
He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Paskewitz, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his sons Frederick "Ricky" Horwath, III and Robert Matthew Horwath, his daughter, Ann Pamela Hammond, his granddaughter, Candace Horwath, and his sister, Ruth Muirhead.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road,
Gambrills, Maryland. A funeral service will follow at the same location on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Bruce Burslie of Living Waters Lutheran Church.
