Frederick J Johnston Jr.

Fred J. Johnston, Jr. of Waldwick passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He was born and raised in Bronx, N.Y., one of six siblings. A proud veteran, Fred served our country as a Marine prior to a long career working for the National Elevator Industry in New York. Throughout his life, he had many unique hobbies and interests. For several years, he was actively involved as a referee for local football and baseball teams. He also enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing and scuba diving, as well as art, music and military history.
He was a parishioner at St. Luke's R.C. Church in Ho-Ho-Kus and is survived by his beloved wife Aggie Johnston (née Angelucci) of 50 years. He is also survived by his two sons, Glenn and Patrick Johnston, and many loving family members.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, August 18, 2024, 3-7pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, N.J. 07481.
A Funeral Mass is planned for Monday, August 19, 2024, 10 am at St. Luke's R.C. Church, 340 Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J. 07432. Entombment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fred can be made to the Marian Shrine 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, N.Y. 10980-2645.
