Frederick G. Madaj

Frederick G. Madaj, age 83, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday evening, November 16, 2025 at New Hope Bay Assisted Living. The son of the late Eugene J. and Tillie B. (Smaglinski) Madaj, he was born on April 10, 1942 in Bay City where he was raised, graduated from Bay City Central High School, and has been a longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Fred went to work at Bay City Chevrolet and enrolled in trade school where he became a tool & die maker. He went on to retire 37 years later from Bay City Powertrain as a skilled tradesman. In retirement, Fred could most often be found working on cars, tractors and small engines, or tinkering around his home. He also enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's sporting events and making trips to a casino. For many years Fred was a baseball and softball coach and was proud to coach his children's teams.
On November 30, 1963 Fred was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Nancy M. Golombeck, and she survives his passing along with their six children, Natalie (Mike) Little, Kevin Madaj, Keith (Kim) Madaj, Ken (Rebecca) Madaj, Chandra (Shane) Knight and Brent Madaj; 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard "Lou" (Arlene) Madaj; his sister-in-law, Carol (Tom) Behmlander; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene (Romaine) Madaj, Robert (Donna) Madaj and Billy Madaj; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Nicholas Coffaro presiding. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at Trahan Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The family suggests donations in Fred's memory to New Hope Bay Assisted Living.
