Frederick Schwier

September 28, 1923 - February 25, 2023

Frederick Schwier, 99, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away February 25, 2023. He was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana September 28, 1923, to Frederick and Louise Schwier. He was drafted into the U.S. Army while attending Purdue University and served our country during World War II. He was stationed in France in an Engineering unit that supplied the frontlines during the Battle of the Bulge. Fred was a Master Sergeant at the age of just 21, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

Because of his time in the military, he attended several universities, but he always considered Michigan State his true alma mater. He was also proud of his time at Harvard Business School where he graduated from the Advanced Management Program.

Fred had a quick wit, sharp mind, generous heart and a contagious laugh. He was a true gentleman whose kindness spanned generations. Fred was an avid golfer who tackled courses around the world. He was a gifted photographer with a keen eye for the beauty around us. He also loved all the dogs that were by his side throughout his lifetime.

Fred had a successful business career that spanned decades. He was the president of several companies, including Libbey-Owens-Ford, Aeroquip and Aro Corporation.

He served on many boards including Comerica Bank, Tecumseh Products, Kysor Industrial Corporation, Toledo Trust and Wilberforce University. Fred was a generous and loyal supporter of numerous charities throughout his lifetime. He was honored for his business and charity work on a number of occasions.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and first wife, Elizabeth.

He is survived by his son, Rick (Carol) Schwier; daughter, Fran Schwier; and grandchildren, Keith Schwier, Kyle Ota and Laurel DePonte.

He is also survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Priscilla Lamb Schwier; stepchildren, Lissa Guyton, Robert (Kristina) Guyton; step-grandchildren, James Guyton, Elizabeth Stout, and his beloved dog, Grace.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee.

Memorial contributions may be made to the outreach programs of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, any dog rescue/shelter, or the charity of the donor's choice.
