It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick March Shape on March 6, 2025, in Sun City, Arizona, at the age of 93.
Born on December 9, 1931, in Warren, Ohio to Mildred M. Shape and Carl T. Shape, Frederick "Tiny" Shape spent most of his life in Warren before relocating to Sun City, Arizona in 2022 following the passing of his wife of 67 years, Barbara Houk Shape, the love of his life.
Fred graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1949 and pursued higher education at Allegheny College before earning his degree in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
After his military service, Fred worked in various professional roles before returning to Warren in 1974, where he joined the family business, Warren Steel Specialties Corp. He eventually became owner and CEO until his retirement in 2018. His leadership and dedication to the company spanned over four decades, leaving a lasting impact on the business, its employees, and the community.
Throughout his life, Fred cultivated various passions and interests. He was an enthusiastic model train hobbyist, particularly devoted to building his "N" Gauge model railroad. An avid reader with a special fondness for westerns, Fred loved the West and the desert. His adventurous spirit led him to enjoy traveling, camping, and driving. Fred was a lifelong learner who embraced new technologies and enjoyed programming. He was also an avid card player who particularly enjoyed bridge, poker, and gin.
As a dedicated community member, Fred served as a past president of the Buckeye Club and was an active member of the Rotary Club of Warren, Ohio.
Fred is survived by his five children: Timothy M. Shape (Christina), Christopher L. Shape (Shari Harrell), Linda S. Parthemer, Susan S. Bunner (Brian), and Laura J. Shape (Christopher Raeburn), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Houk Shape; his parents, Mildred and Carl Shape; and his siblings, Robert C. Shape and Ruth S. Ray.
Fred's life was characterized by dedication to family, community service, professional excellence, and a never-ending curiosity about the world. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date to be determined.
