Frederick Alson Underwood, age 84, of Merrimac, MA, passed early on Tuesday morning, October 21, 2025, at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill. He was survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Nancy (Schaffner) Underwood.
Born in Burlington, VT on March 1, 1941, he was the son of the late Alson Underwood and the late Emily (Sweeney) Wagner.
Fred, as he was known by many, worked as a lineman retiring from Georgetown Light Dept. and served as a light and water commissioner for the town of Merrimac for several years.
His passion was hunting and fishing, and time with his family, especially with this grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Frederick “Rick” Underwood, Jr. and Ronald Underwood; two daughters, Brenda Baldenelli and husband Rico and Jane Weiderhold and husband Walter (Monty); his loving grandchildren, Derek Jr., Tabitha, Brady, Desiree, Fallon and Dakota, and great-grandchildren, Grayson, Anthony, Cayden, Jordan, Konnor and Aria; five sisters, Nancy Turner and husband Donald, Sally Ryan and husband Billy, Judy Noel and husband Ron, Sheila Bearor and husband Don, and Pam Duffy and husband Jim; his brother Steve Underwood and wife Pat and his brother-in-law Walter (Bubby) Cross; along with several generations of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Betty Cross; a nephew, Don Turner, Jr. and a niece, Tammy Juarie.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA, 01913 and Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service at Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, MA, where Frederick A. Underwood will be laid to eternal rest.
