Fredric C. McQuady, Sr., a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his home, knowing he was loved. He was born on March 15, 1933, in Horse Branch to the late Raymond Franklin McQuady and Bonnie Daugherty McQuady. Fred retired from Peabody Coal working at Ken and Martwick Mines. He was a member of UMWA and New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Baizetown since 1943. Fred married his best friend and love of his life sixty-eight years ago in the judge's chambers with the sheriff and county attorney as their witnesses. The witnesses made the judge more nervous than the bride and groom were. Fred was an avid fisherman and UK fan. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Nina Bray McQuady; grandson, Johnny Ray Smith; stepmother, Stella McQuady, stepsister, Alice Faye Embry; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Anna Mae Moore Bray; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Beulah Bray as well as brothers-in-law, Wendell McCormick and Norman Wendell.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, four children, Diana McQuady of Bowling Green, Fred (Dale) McQuady of Lexington, Brenda (Paul) Smith of Baizetown, and Sherry McQuady of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren, Jimmy Smith, Jamey Smith, Travis (Barbara) McQuady, Aaron McQuady, and Elise McQuady; eighteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda McQuady of Cromwell; brother-in-law, Ernest Embry; stepbrother, Gene Goodman of Hartford; sister, Patricia Wendell of Marysville, Michigan; sister-in-law, Winnie McCormick of Beaver Dam, uncle, Aaron Daugherty of Louisville as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 15, 2025, with Bro. Greg Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery. Friends may visit with Fred's family from 3-7 PM Friday and from 9 AM until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
