Fredrick “Freddie” Joe McConnell, 67, beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend passed away July 1, 2024, at home. Freddie was born March 7, 1957, in Mena, AR to Fred and Joan (Kemp) McConnell. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred “Cotton” and Joan McConnell, nephew Jeremy Elder, maternal grandparents William and Janie Kemp, paternal grandparents Lee and Allie McConnell.
Freddie will be remembered as a hard man who worked his entire life. He spent many years in the log woods as a logger and later worked at Gwinn Boat Repair until his passing. His commitment and strong worth ethic were known to all who crossed his path. In addition to his time spent working, Freddie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, he had a fondness for scratch-off tickets from Quik Sak. His kindness and friendly demeanor touched the lives of many during his time here on earth.
Freddie is survived by his wife Bonnie McConnell of 43 years, sons Lee McConnell and wife Rayline, Zack Jordan and wife Ashley, granddaughter Kaitlyn Jordan, sisters Lynn Strother and husband Bobby, Jeanie Pate and husband Craig, Ann Sanchez, brother Heath McConnell and wife Kay, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, July 5, 2024, 1 to 2 at Pencil Bluff Baptist Church with service following at 2. Burial will be at Pencil Bluff Cemetery. Pallbearers, Bobby Strother, Dale Brewer, Jimmy Abernathy, Danny Gwinn, Dewayne Helms, and Jr Starr. Bro Ron Parsons will be officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com.
