Frieda Marie Phillips, 96, of Centralia, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Centralia Manor.
Frieda was born on February 20, 1928 in Washington County to William and Anna Emma Helena (Krietemeier) Brun.
On November 24, 1971 she married John Phillips in Las Vegas, Nevada and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1995.
Survivors include her son, Charles Mathis (Martha) of Walnut Hill; daughters, Betty Helverson of Chatham and Doris Reed (Curtis) of Centralia; step-sons, Dean Phillips (Kathy) of Alabama and Danny Phillips (Leanna) of Centralia; step-daughters, Bonnie Dickinson (David) of Centralia and Terry Pitchford also of Centralia; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Brun; husband, John Phillips; daughter, Shirley Bierman; step-daugther, Peggy Combs; step-son, Willis Phillips; six sisters and four brothers.
Frieda worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia as a Nurses Aid for over 14 years. She was a homemaker for many years as well and was a member of the Jolly Quilters and the Baker Street Baptist Church. She loved gardening and quilting but most of all, she loved being with her family.
Funeral services for Frieda will be held on Wednesday, January 22 at 11:00 am at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of services. Pastor Don Shaffer will officiate. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery in Centralia. In lieu of flowers, Frieda's family requests that memorial donations be made to Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Frieda's family.
