Frieda Smashey, age 87 of West Deptford, NJ died at home on Saturday, July 5, 2025. She was born in Camden, NJ to the late Cornelius Heritage and Violet (nee Beckman). She devoted her life to her family and the residents of West Deptford and Mantua Townships. As a young woman Freida was active with West Deptford Little League & Softball and was a cheer coach for West Deptford Midget Cheerleading. She was a member of the Mantua Volunteer Fire Company, Mantua Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and was instrumental in creating the Mantua Township Fire & EMS Museum.
Frieda is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Larry Smashey; two sons, Larry Smashey Jr. & his wife, Maureen (nee Murphy) and John Smashey & his wife, Mary Beth (nee Finn); six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; her sister, Marie Bothwell of VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, John & Donald Heritage.
Relatives and friends may continue to celebrate Frieda's life with her family on Saturday, August 9th beginning at 1 pm at the Mantua Township Fire & EMS Museum, 42 Main Street, Mantua, NJ.
