Frieda Ruth Wernecke was born on May 9, 1933 in Giddings, Texas, the daughter of Gustav Emil Wernecke and Selma Bertha (Prellop) Wernecke. She was baptized on May 14, 1933 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer and confirmed on April 14, 1946 also at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Max Studtmann. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 28:20, "And teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Frieda was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. She worked at Elkins 5 & 10 Store in Giddings which later became Noack's 5 & 10. She spent most of her life living and working on the family farm. She, and her brother Herman, always had a large garden and enjoyed giving away the vegetables they grew to family and friends. She enjoyed playing dominoes and there were usually coffee and cookies waiting when the game ended.
