Fulgenzio Gerardo Casinelli, affectionately known as "Tatone" by his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family in New Canaan, Connecticut.
Born on April 10, 1928, in Settefrati, Italy, he was the son of the late Cesidio and Marianne (Buzzeo) Casinelli. Fulgenzio is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Annunziata, his cherished daughter Grace, and his loving sons Jesse Cesidio (Emily), Tony (Kathy), and Phil (Millie). He also leaves behind 9 adoring grandchildren: Billy (Kelly), Katie, Ann Marie, Dean (Jaclyn), Dylan, Audrey, Christian, Isabella, and Matthew, along with 3 great-grandchildren: Katelynn, Christie, and Chloe.
Fulgenzio is also survived by his sister Mary Vitti, brother Rocco (Helen) Casinelli, sister-in-laws Antionetta Casinelli and Eleanor
Casinelli, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family in Canada and Italy. He was predeceased by his brothers, Nicola, and Antonio.
In 1954, Fulgenzio married his beloved Annunziata and together they began their life in Toronto, Canada, where he worked paving roads. In 1959, they moved to Stamford, Connecticut, where Fulgenzio began a long career with Conde Nast and Pitney Bowes. One of the family's most cherished memories is the purchase of "The Farm," a beloved getaway and hunting cabin that became a gathering place for countless joyful moments shared with family and friends. He and Annunziata also spent their summers in Settefrati, Italy, continuing their connection to the land and their roots.
Fulgenzio's life was characterized by his love for his family and his deep bond with nature. A hardworking man of the earth, he took great pride in making homemade wine, sausages, and prosciutto, and tending to his vast garden. In his later years, after moving to New Canaan, CT, Fulgenzio expanded his gardening passion and cared for chickens, rabbits, and goats. His hands were never idle; he was a
dedicated helper to his son Phil's business ventures and landscaping work, always ready to lend a hand.
Fulgenzio was a simple, selfless, and humble man, known for his tireless work ethic, love for his family, and deep connection to the land. He will be remembered for the legacy he cultivated throughout his life, his kindness, his wisdom, and the love he poured into everything he did. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday October 19th at St Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry Street, New Canaan at 10am.
The family will recieve friends from 4pm to 8pm Friday October 18th at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main street, New Canaan CT 06840.
The Burial will be held at 11:30am at Lakeview Cemetery after Mass.
