Funtella G. Mayfield, 75, passed away on December 28, 2025, at Haskell Care Center. She was born on June 9, 1950, in Haskell, Oklahoma to Leon and Dora Jumper Goree.
Funtella grew up in Haskell, Oklahoma and attended Booker T. Washington School.
Funtella met and married Arvin Mayfield. To this union, four children were born. She also had the honor and pleasure of raising her first-born granddaughter.
Funtella was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served in multiple roles, including singing in the choir and the Women’s Missionary Society.
Funtella enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Bingo and Pokeno. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvin Mayfield Sr.; her first-born son, Keith E. Smith; daughter, Eva Latasha Mayfield; her parents, Leon and Dora Goree; brothers, David, Billy, Leon Jr., Johnny, and Robert; sisters, Floretta and Mayetta; and special friend Alfretta Gist.
She is survived by her children: Tracy Lester (Tan) of Red Bird, Oklahoma, Twilla Mayfield of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Arvin Mayfield Jr. of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Lataseha Hollis (Travis) of Haskell, Oklahoma. She also leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren: Sidney, Kevin, Phillip Jr., Trishon, Chelsea, Demeris, Brittney, Brat, Zayvieon, and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Clarice Donaldson and Sharon Server (Melvin); brother, Chester Goree; sister-in-laws, Rose Draper, Thetta Johnson, Mildred Mayfield Geneva Goree, and Genny Smith; brother-in-law, Lonnie Mayfield: special friend Debra Bledsoe; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Brown’s Funeral Service in Coweta, Oklahoma. Services celebrating Funtella’s life will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Haskell, Oklahoma.
