Gabriel John Devoe, God's miracle, was born on July 24, 1999 in Jacksonville, Florida to John Jay Devoe Jr. and Rose Marie Devoe. Through much prayer and faith, the Lord brought the Devoe family their heartstring. Gabriel's Miracle is a "Work wrought by a Divine Power (God), for a Divine Purpose (His Glory) by means beyond the reach of man." Gabriel's parents and sisters adored him as he them. He valued his family and loved them dearly. Gabriel took great pride in his appearance, and everyone close to him can attest to that. Gabriel had a fun personality and a big bright smile to match. When he walked into a room, he commanded attention.
Gabriel confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Grace Baptist Church of East Springfield where his father is the pastor. Gabriel was active in Sunday School and served in the youth choir, drama ministry, and media ministry. He made his parents proud as he led the song, "I'm Walking in Authority" and delivered his Christmas and Easter speeches with fluency and authority.
He received his education in the Duval County School system, graduating from Paxon School for Advanced Studies in 2017. After graduating from high school, he furthered his education at Valdosta State University, majoring in Healthcare Management and Business Administration. He was completing an internship in healthcare administration during his final semester of college.
Gabriel transitioned from this life on Thursday, November 3, 2022. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Jay Devoe Sr. and Lois Albertha Devoe and his maternal grandfather, Charles Jones Jr. Gabriel leaves to cherish his beautiful memories and contagious smile, his loving grandmother, Earnestine Black; loving and proud parents, John Devoe Jr. and Rose Devoe; loving and affectionate sisters, Samone Devoe and Jameeka Morris (Corey); beautiful and sweet nieces, Nadiya, Brieya, and LaMya Morris; aunts, Queen Devoe, Shirley Elaine Gray, Angela Weatherington, and Shawate Jones; uncle, Jerry Phillips (Willa); great aunts, Ruth McIntyre (Roy), Patricia Jones, Ola Freeman, Maple Bronner, Cornelia Haywood (Raymond), Carrie Washington, Daisy Ruth Jones, Martha Devoe, Mary Devoe (Columbus), Sandra Devoe Bland (David), Ernestine Brown, and Celeste Devoe; great uncles, Ernest Devoe, Weldon Hayes, James Devoe, Steve Devoe (Toni), John Fields (Maggie), Melvin Fields, Clyde Fields, and Jerry Fields, as well as, a host of cousins, other relatives, many friends and special friend, Destiny.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Gabe was one of my first students at Paxon. It was my first year teaching and he was in my first class ever-6B Analysis of Functions his junior year. I´ll never forget he and his classmates reactions when they found out they finally had a new and permanent teacher. He just knew his charm and big smile would get him out of doing any homework. Nope! It wasn´t long before I saw him and his teammates in study hall after school. :) When he came back from college to visit, I couldn´t believe how much he had grown. He had matured into a young man sharing his progress at Valdosta State and his future goals. I reminded him to always stay positive-good vibes only. I´m sad to hear of his passing, but honored that I got a chance to know him. I pray for your family´s strength and comfort during this time.

Mr. and Mrs. Devoe,

I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear the news of Gabriel's passing. I enjoyed having him in my Pre-K class. He was such a delightful, loving child, with the cutest face and squishiest cheeks. As the years went on, I have such wonderful memories of him playing neighborhood basketball with my son, Johnny. I am grateful and so blessed that the Lord put him in my life and let me be a small part of Gabriel's earthly life. I am unable to attend the services, but please know that your family is heavy on my heart and in mind. I will be praying for peace and understanding during for your family during this difficult time.

Much Love,

Heather Moon
