Gabrielle Rowe Obituary
April 26, 1973 - January 20, 2023
Durham , North Carolina - Gabrielle Lee Rowe (née Ponzi) died on January 20, 2023. She lived a beautiful, creative life in the face of a long and cruel illness. Her daily and deepest joy was her son, Isaac. She grew up largely in Goldsboro, NC, attended Wake Forest University, graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude with a degree in English literature, and earned a Masters in Education from Princeton Seminary. She married Kavin Rowe 26 years ago, and knew his soul.
Gabrielle was the eldest of six children born to Dr. Joe and Mrs. Pam Ponzi, of Goldsboro. She leaves behind sisters Lora Geer, Alysia Yates, Gina Fornecker, Breanna Linn, and their husbands and many children, as well as brother Joey Ponzi and his wife Sarah and their children. Gabrielle was also very close to her mother-in-law, Betty B. Rowe ("Bear") of Greensboro.
Her chief pleasures in life besides her son were mature friendships, books, hymns/chants, and flowers. She was that breed of Christian whose faith was lively and unswerving while also intellectually profound and devoid of sentimental pieties in the face of suffering and of questions that remain unanswered on earth. Her life of hope was an inspiration.
The family would like to thank the Duke Hospice team for their remarkable compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a charitable donation to Duke Hospice.
There will be a visitation at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Service at 1113 West Main Street, Durham, North Carolina on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 5pm - 7pm. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

I have known Gabrielle for over 40 years and she has touched my life in such a profound almost inexplicable way. My heart breaks to hear the news of her death which has been brought to a close so prematurely. Though words might not fully communicate my ongoing appreciation and now my grief, I want to pay tribute to her life well-lived. I can attest that she was a true rare pearl in this world and beautiful in every way. Even from an early age, she showed such a rare character and faith, and she wore her heart on her sleeve as she displayed unbiased and selfless compassion toward others. She never followed the crowd but maintained her own unswerving perspective on life. When she communicated, I appreciated that her ways of expression were deep, thoughtful and full of intelligence and wisdom.
I don´t know why she had to suffer so much; in fact, the purpose of her illness has been a great mystery to me. She had so much to offer the world and had her health permitted more, she would have created even more beauty in the world, but I know in spite of her circumstances, she still managed to touch many lives. I admired her on so many levels, and even though she suffered, she nevertheless always had a positive word and smiled with hope and joy. I am grateful that she let me occupy a small corner of her life. I´m especially grateful that her husband and family were such a loving support for her. She was cherished and will be deeply missed. I cannot believe she is gone.

We knew Gabrielle as a young girl and also in her teenage years. The joy of the LORD radiated from her life. Gabrielle had such a loving and giving heart and also was so determined to do her very best at whatever she faced. She won the hearts of old and young alike by her caring and amazing personality. She was a part of such a wonderful family. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
