In the early morning hours of April 6, 2024, Gail Rena Batey was called home by Jesus. Gail was born on July 11, 1969, in Valparaiso, Indiana to Bill and Norma (nee: Jacobs) Hathaway who preceded her in death. Gail spent her life in the Kouts and Valparaiso area. She worked as a dedicated CNA at Porter/Northwest Health until her health caused her to retire early.
On June 11, 2005, Gail married the love of her life, Matt Batey. They lived a life of love along with their children. Gail loved her family and friends fiercely. Gail will be remembered for her gift of gab. She never met a stranger. Gail’s favorite pastimes included spending time with family and friends and often playing games. She loved camping and who cannot forget her love of pickles. Gail loved being GaGa to her grandson, Tyson, more than anything. Gail was a member of New Hope Missionary Church in Morgan Township.
Gail is survived by her husband of almost 19 years, Matt and their children: Haleigh (Devin Fuller) Batey, Madyson Dibkey, Sarah, Josiah, Sam and Bella Batey. She leaves behind siblings: Donna (Steve) Redelman, Denny (Julie) Hathaway, Sister-in-law: Melissa (Brian) Nelson and brother-in-law: Michael Batey. Gail loved being an aunt to her many nieces and nephews: Angie (Brock) Adair, Stephany (Jeff) Lockett, Jake (Kelli) Duttlinger, Abby (Dave) Brubaker, Breckon Long, Elizabeth Nelson, Heather Loop, Chad (Erin King) Hathaway, Doug (Julia Hathaway) and Joy (Troy) VanVeldhuizen. Her great nieces and nephew held special places in her heart, Kayla and Kourtney Lockett, Peyton and Kenzie Duttlinger, Aaron, Johanna and Addelyn Brubaker, Addilyn Hathaway, and Camilla Hathaway. She loved her mother-in-law: Georgiana Batey, dearly.
Gail was welcomed into heaven by her savior Jesus and her loving parents: Bill and Norma, sister: Charlene Jo Hathaway, father-in-law: Dwight Batey, brother-in-law: Joe Duttlinger and great niece: Lucy VanVeldhuizen.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. and interment to follow at Graceland Cemetery in Kouts. Pastor Alan Fodrey will conduct funeral services. All services will be held at Cornerstone Community Church in Kouts, Indiana. All arrangements are being handled by Boersma Funeral Home in Wheatfield.
